·        Notice board – communicating with public

·        Welcoming people when they come to the space – welcomers/greeters?

o       Music

o       Jazz afternoons (Sunday)?

·        Hospitality – always tea/coffee lollies/biscuits available

·        Atmosphere – candle – make this a different space to usual

·        Practice of prayer – anyone will pray with/for you

·        Sacred space (like triennial asia pacific art exhibition)

o       Set aside place for prayer letters

o       Candles

o       Anyone can write one

o       Public or private

·        Ritual for opening up – prayers, flags?

o       Rubbing bhudda’s tummy

·        Greenhouse hats

·        Emergency fund – giving money away

·        Database of assets/skills

·        Markets attract large range of people – we want to attract people all sorts of backgrounds – not just ‘welfare’ needs

Reflections/Learnings of First Woody Point Lunch Gathering

·        Liked to have talked about more ‘heart’ stuff

·        Would have been better if time hadn’t been so constrained

·        Found out that people in our group have a lot of skills

o       Can be intimidating!

·        Challenging just to talk to someone without an agenda

·        Need a purpose to engage

·        We have a culture of suspicion in our society – people view strangers with suspicion

·        Need to have somebody with you

o       Don’t feel safe alone

·        How do we engage people of different cultures?

o       Need to learn more about other cultures

·        Lots of different groups there

o       Families

o       Sailors

o       Aged

o       Workmen

o       People from other cultures

o       Not necessarily Australian

·        Need to spend more time together

·        Is it ok when we are meeting to leave the group for a while and wander? – this is my personality

Why are we here?

· Want to know what we can do

· Want to do something – to be involved in our community

· Am a participator – want to use my skills broadly

· Want to learn new skills

· Change focus – work outsides of professional boundaries (more wholistic)

· Reconnect with community & people

· Help people connect with each other

o Especially hurting & lonely people

· Ready to be organized! – looking for a way to be involved

· Work alongside groups doing same thing building partnerships

Practices that we have work shopped that we envision being a part of the everyday operation of the greenhouse and that the "team" want to use are :


Sharing of a meal every six months of all the users of the greenhouse

Grace

Use of Flags out the front to indicate activities or that the Greenhouse is open

Using an open diary to record the ebb and flow of events and use of the Greenhouse

A Prayer box for use by everyone

a "thanks board" - for people to say thanks for things that happen within and connected with the greenhouse

Inviting Friends and Neighbours to share the road in developing the Greenhouse with us

Our six words of Community Characteristics are:

Wed 11 July at Woody Point 12noon to 2pm for lunch and follow up on tonight's discussion and tying it into our 6 'themes' we agreed on last time (butcher paper exercise);

and
    •     Thursday 19 July  7.30pm for our next session with Mark; and
    •     Wednesday 15 August at Woody Point 9.30am to 3.30pm for a full day session with Mark (Brisbane's Ekka Show Day Holiday).

My Burning question since meeting with the Kayak Man is how do we decide who we work with and who we don't

How do we decide who pays and who doesnt?

 This is a place where the project team and community members can meet to enable the development of the the former youth hostel at Woody Point , QLD Australia  now known as "the greenhouse".  This is a group which is also using a process called the "The Greenhouse" to facilitate the development of the project.

This community journal will provide a record and a hub for the process and the place.
